Josie Gibson shot to fame in 2010 when she won the final Big Brother series broadcast on Channel Four, polling 77.5% of the public vote – the largest winning margin on any Big Brother Series.
During her time in the house, Josie never faced the public vote, which she puts down to her warm, bubbly, friendly character and she is widely recognised as one of the most popular housemates ever to have featured on the show.
Josie has always worked hard, something which has continued since leaving the Big Brother house, becoming an OK! TV presenter and OK! agony aunt; appearing in two of her own reality TV shows
- “JJJ What Happened Next” and “There’s Something About Josie”; launching her own perfume; writing magazine columns for the likes of NOW; working as a plus-size model; recording voiceovers; working as a Celebrity Wedding Planner; appearing on Celebrity Impossible, Gino & Mel – Lets do Lunch, The Wright Stuff, Silent Library, Wagons Den, Celebrity Juice, Live From Studio Five, The Vanessa Show, OK! TV, 8 out of 10 Cats, wildlife presenter on Live With…, Loose Women; and also appearing as the Genie of the Lamp in her hometown pantomime in front of crowds of 2000 at the Bristol Hippodrome.
All this on top of countless magazine deals. Big Brother may have catapulted Josie into the limelight but she has worked relentlessly, and not looked back
Josie was always a curvy girl, ranging from a size 16 to a size 20, something the media always commented on, so she finally decided to do something about it and found a system called “30 Second Slim” with personal trainer James Stark, a fellow Bristolian. Josie trained with James 3-4 times a week and changed her diet to what she likes to call the “Josie Cave Man Diet”. She is now a size 10 and has released a fitness DVD called “30 Second Slim”, which is designed to help other people achieve their fitness and weight goals. She is also busy working on her own clothing line, and is also the face of Pearly Whites Ltd.
After living in London for two years Josie moved back to Bristol, missing her hometown. She lives in the city with her partner Luke who is a plumber, and with whom she has renovated two houses. Josie is always on the look out for new business ventures and enjoys nothing more than seeing the results of her hard work, something which motivated her to drop five dress sizes in under six months! Josie loves keeping fit and enjoys country walks with her dog Roxy.
A dedicated family girl, she is the eldest of six children from single mum Mandy, and loves spending time with her three brothers, two sisters and her Aunt Kay and cousins. Josie’s happy disposition and positive approach to life inspires everyone who meets her, and her down-to-earth upbringing has kept her grounded right through the exciting changes that came with overnight fame.
Josie is very kind-natured and genuine and has used her fame to good effect. On leaving the Big Brother house, she donated £20,000 from her prize money to the charity CLIC Sargent which helped build a special ward in Bristol for children with cancer. Josie lost her Aunty Marie to cancer at the age of 14, and she has continued to support the charity ever since. She has also worked with Meningitis UK, raising money through abseiling and charity walks.
This is another charity close to Josie, having nearly lost her brother Harry to meningitis when he was three. The disease left Harry profoundly deaf and he too likes to help out with the charity. Josie has also helped with auctions and fundraising for the Jessie May Trust a local children’s charity in Bristol, and she recently returned from Africa with Madventurer, an organisation that helps improve the lives of children in Ghana.
Being able to make a small difference to these people’s lives fulfils a lifelong dream for Josie and she throws herself wholeheartedly into every event and project she supports. In her view, the best gift you could ever give to a child is an education, and if her new found fame can help her to do that, then she feels she has won a thousand times over.
